Individual assessments
If you are a parent you may be concerned about aspects of your child’s learning and development at school. These areas may include:
- • Maths and literacy development/dyslexia
- • Social skills
- • Relationships with other pupils or their siblings
- • Concerns about your child’s behaviour at home or at school
- • Developmental disorders such as autism, global delay, language disorder etc
If you are concerned that your child’s needs may have been overlooked or just need to know more about their progress your may decide on an individual assessment.
Fees for this start at £800 however I do carry out limited lower fee/pro-bono work for families in need.
I am happy to discuss any aspect of this but usually:
- • I listen very carefully to your concerns or needs
- • We discuss and decide how I will assess your child using observation, standardised assessment (to determine how they are progressing for their age), dynamic assessment (to determine what strategies they respond best to in learning situations) and where to assess
- • I will then assess your child, talk with any other adults that we have decided on such as teachers at school
On completion of visits and assessment work I will produce a report that is clear with any complex ideas or concepts explained with clear recommendations for future actions. Any report I produce is your property and it would be your responsibility to share with your child’s school.
Mutlicultural Assessment
I have always worked as an Educational Psychologist in London with its population of many cultures, languages and cultural and class background. This has included people from nearly every continent on Earth!
Whatever your heritage or background I will ensure that I listen carefully as to what your expectations of your child’s achievements and behaviour is and take your views into account.
I will also make certain that when assessing your child I will ensure that as far as possible I will use assessments that are fit for purpose and that do not pose an unfair cultural bias on your child. All children are important and the well-being and progress of your child is really important to me.
I am happy to produce reports to support you in SEN tribunals but will also caution against this if it is my professional judgment that you would be unlikely to get the outcome you wanted.
